School Resources Project (COMPLETED!!! - 19 Sept, 2012)
Background:
Moses and I decided to firstly focus on the children. The children who are unable, due to poverty, to attend the local primary school. They would otherwise be on the streets shining shoes or begging. This project began as an idea at 7:00pm (Nanango time) one Thursday night between emails to each other. Moses identified about 80 children from Kiwaala who were unable to start school for Term 3 due to a lack of resources. I phone some beautiful people (Amy and Lisa) I know and by 7:20pm we had enough funds to cover the supply of these resources. Just a little compassion and a bit of time; we can actually make a difference.
Process:
Moses purchased 59 dozen exercise books, pens, pencils and 5 pairs of shoes and together with his youth provided basic needs such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and Jerry (used for the skin after bathing). The following Wednesday, Moses distributed the supplies to the children who, with exercise and writing materials in hand, can now attend St Henry's Primary School, Kiwaala.
Report:
Having previously visited Uganda I can visualise the children's faces beaming with excitement, a new hope instead of a sorrow, as they proudly walk to school carrying their text books and stationery. Together we were able to provide enough scholastic materials to 106 children to participate in earning their education at St Henry's.
